Kindergarten Screening

What an exciting time for your family and especially your young child who will soon be entering the next kindergarten class at Russia Local School! Kindergarten registration and screening at Russia Local School is scheduled for March 16, 2022, in the Clair C. Naveau Gymnasium. Children are eligible to attend kindergarten in the fall of 2022 if they have reached the age of five before August 1, 2022. As required by state law, students must receive necessary immunizations and have records on file before attending school. In addition, please inform the school of any serious medical problems or allergies which your child may have. Please drop off or mail the following items.

1) Copy of Social Security card

2) Copy of child’s immunization record

3) Copy of Certified Birth Record (from county health dept.)

4) Copy of custody decree ruling (if applicable)

Please call the school at 526-3156, to register for one of the following screening sessions: 8:15-10:15, 10:15-12:15, or 1:15-3:15.

Please arrive five to ten minutes before the starting time. You and your child will need to stay for the entire session. Russia School will again be using the Kindergarten Diagnostic Instrument (KDI-2) for the screening program. A description of its components has been enclosed. After your child has completed all of the screening activities, school personnel will conference with parents to review the screening results. The Shelby County Health Nurse and supervisors from the Shelby County Educational Service Center will assist with the screening of your child. Mrs. Dapore and Mrs. Bensman will also be present to meet your child and answer any questions you may have.

The Shelby County Health Department will be available to discuss individual immunization requirements and answer questions. Fingerprinting will also be available free of charge and will be given to parents.

Should you decide to delay your child’s entrance into school, please notify the school office so that we may put his/her name on the following year’s kindergarten screening list. If you are undecided, we recommend that your child still participate in the screening process.
